Billy Bragg - Never Buy The Sun

The Leveson Inquiry into media ethics has been going on for a few months here in the UK. News International shut down their long running Sunday publication 'News of the World' in an attempt to quell the growing furore at the general public finally being made fully aware of their morally absent / foul journalistic techniques (which included paying off police officers, hacking phones).

Most open minded people generally knew these tabloids were sewer journalism and never read them. Sadly however even now there's enough people whose minds exist in the sewer that they have relaunched launched the News of the World Sun on Sunday. I don't think a lot of people realise that this type of journalism is NOT the norm in nearly every other country in the world. Coming from New Zealand I always did wonder how people read the shit pumped down their throats via 40p newspapers. I suppose 'giving people what they want' is a good enough excuse, and by good I mean fucking not good. I do agree however that ignorance, stupidity, and intolerance enjoys company. I also believe that it enjoys wallowing in the comfort of reading a publication that reaffirms its skewed version of the world.
