The Smiths - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out

I remember exactly the moment I heard this song for the first time when I was about twelve, though it was a cover version by Neil Finn. I remember being so offended by the "ten tonne truck" lyric, because how on earth is it romantic to die like that? I took it way too seriously because that's literally how my grandparents died. Though no one went into details with us kids it sounded traumatic and the opposite of romantic. Morbid story, but years later I now love The Smiths, hardly notice the lyrics, and understand the context... mostly.

"And if a ten tonne truck  / Kills the both of us / To die by your side / Well the pleasure, the privilege is mine."
